Vila do Bispo: Roteiro Megalitico
The menhirs are of Neolithic origin and date to around 5000 B.C. It is known that they were "imported" into their current positions as they are of a Carboniferous Limestone, as opposed to the Jurassic Limestone that outcrops on the hills underfoot.

It was in such vessels that the bold Portuguese navigators set forth from Lagos in the 15th century to sail round the African continent and find the sea route to India.

Vila Real d.S.A.: Praça Marques de Pombal
The square in the centre of the town has been named after the prime miniser of Portugal, who was responsible for the fast reconstruction of Vila Real d.S.A.
